Sad Teenage Boy Has to Go to Prom Alone
The boy sighs and looks at his reflection with a frown.
"Look at you! So dashing!" The mom pins a corsage on her son's tuxedo while he rolls his eyes.
"Come on," she says. "Nowadays lots of people go by themselves."
"No they don't," his little sister says shaking her head without looking up from coloring.
"Yeah," the boy whispers. He is obviously upset about not having a date.
"Hey, son," his dad says. The teenager turns around. "Have fun tonight." His father tosses him the car keys. The son looks shocked that he got the keys.
In the first part of this commercial, Audi did a good job of making you feel sorry for this poor kid who doesn't have a date to his Senior Prom. They made him look very uncool when even his little sister knows that he's a dork for not having anyone to go with. He had to have his mother get him a corsage. This boy is down on his luck.
It also has a sweet moment when the dad offers him the car keys. Because of the look of shock on the boy's face, we know that the father never lets him drive it, so the car must be precious to the father. Well played, Audi.

The Teenager is Driving the Audi to Prom
We now see the garage and the Audi's lights come on. As he drives along smiling about driving the car, he ends up stopping next to a limo.
A girl screams out the window, "Prom!" He turns his head back to the road with a big smile and speeds off. |

Audi did a great job in this part of the commercial in making sure that it looks like their Audi S6 is a very desirable car. The boy feels cool, like he can conquer the world. He's getting attention while in the vehicle. These are things that the target audience wants for themselves.
The Boy Goes to Prom and Kisses the Prom Queen
The teenager pulls into the parking lot with a screech and it's revealed that he parked in a spot that says, "Principal Only." He walks with confidence into dance while searching the crowd.
We now see the who he is looking for- the Prom Queen. She turns around and he kisses her. They embrace with passionate kissing.
The scene now shows a few other teenage boys, one of which looks angry as he turns around. "Hey!" the he yells while charging at the main character. He is the Prom King and he is much bigger than the main character.
The prom scene of this commercial really drives home that driving the Audi S6 will give you more confidence. The boy is not scared of parking in the principal's spot and he is not afraid of the consequences of kissing the girl he likes (who apparently likes him back now that he has confidence).

The Black Eye was Worth It
In the next scene we see the boy in his dad's Audi driving with a black eye. He gets a huge grin on his face as he thinks back to the kiss. We also see the Prom Queen smiling dreamily. The guy screams happily as he speeds away in the roaring Audi S6.
"Bravery. It's what defines us," the screen says.
This was a fantastic ending to a great commercial. They basically imply that you can make more out of your life by driving this car and getting the confidence it inspires. Again, they make the car look extremely desirable by making their target audience want this type of experience for themselves.

What was the Song in the Commercial About the Boy Going to Prom? Who Sings It?
The song from the Audi commercial is "Can't Win 'Em All" and it is sung by Hanni El Khatib. The lyrics in the commercial appear to be the following:
Back against the wall, Get down to make you crawl, Get down when you feel tall. Get down to me. The song had a great beat and worked well with the commercial. |

Alternate Audi Prom Ending: Tradition
This commercial is the same as the winner except for the fact that there's an extra scene at the end where the boy finds a picture of his mom and dad at prom. His father has a black eye in the photo. Perhaps voters thought this extra touch was too much? I thought it was pretty funny myself. You also don't see that extra smile from the prom queen which may have gotten some voters' attention.

Alternate Audi Prom Ending: Buddies
This commercial is exactly like the final version, except for the fact that instead of the kid being in the car by himself after the big kiss yelling/howling, he has a car full of nerds with him. Voters did not pick this ending because it took away the cool factor that had been built up.

What Was the Point of the Audi Prom Super Bowl 2013 Commercial?
The Audi S6 commercial's point was to say that if you purchase this vehicle you will gain confidence, be brave and have a more adventurous life. Did they get their message across?
