|
Budweiser has a commercial for the 2014 Super Bowl that is melting hearts. It features a puppy that makes friends with a horse (a Budweiser Clydesdale). Watch it below!
On this page, we'll discuss the song from the commercial, the dog breed and more! |
Watch the Budweiser "Puppy Love" Commercial
This Super Bowl ad from Budweiser is 60 seconds in length and is oozing with cuteness. It features an adorable puppy who loves spending time with a Clydesdale horse. The two cannot be separated.
Find out what happens when the puppy is sold and has to leave home. Watch the commercial on YouTube below. |
What kind of dog is the puppy in the Budweiser Ad?
The puppies featured in the 2014 Super Bowl ad "Puppy Love" are Yellow Labs. The Yellow Labrador Retriever is known for being strong, yet gentle, and very intelligent. Labs are popular pets because they are active, easy to train, and family friendly.
This particular Yellow Lab puppy was ten weeks old when shooting this commercial. |
What is the Song in the Budweiser Puppy Commercial?
The song playing in the background of this sweet ad is sung by Passenger and the song is called "Let Her Go" from the album All the Little Lights.
Here are the lyrics heard in the commercial:
"Well you only need the light when it's burning low, Only miss the sun when it starts to snow. Only know you love her when you let her go. Only know you've been high when you're feeling low, Only hate the road when you're missing home, Only know you love her when you let her go. And you let her go. And you let her go (oh woah). When you let her go." |

This Puppy is Too Cute!
The commercial starts out in a country town and shows a sign that says, "Warm Springs Puppy Adoption." There are a bunch of Yellow Labrador puppies and people are coming to see them. One of the puppies escape and crawls under the fence.
The next scene shows the puppy entering a barn where a Clydesdale is kept. The puppy waves his paw and the horse lowers his head to see the puppy and the puppy gives the Clydesdale a kiss. The puppy jumps in circles and the horse snorts. It is very cute.
The man working in the barn takes the puppy back to the blonde bombshell woman at the adoption facility (this looks like a love story waiting to happen too), but the puppy escapes again (and tries to again before the woman catches him). Finally, the puppy is sold and is taken away in a car. The woman seems sad.
The shot moves to the Clydesdale who sees the puppy being taken away, barking and whining. It starts to run after the car, hurdling over fences as he calls to his friends for help. The driver sees the horse in pursuit in the rear view mirror and nearly injures the rest of the Clydesdales who are now in front of the car.
The next scene must have been pretty graphic between the horses and the man who bought the puppy, because the next thing you see is the puppy running home with a Clydesdale security detail with no sign of the man- he didn't even come back for a refund! Do not mess with the Budweiser Clydesdales.
The man with perfectly white teeth welcomes the puppy after seeing this and they live happily ever after with the dog and horse playing together in the field. #BestBuds

What Does a Puppy and Horse Have to Do With Beer?
Critics of this commercial say that a puppy making friends with a horse has absolutely nothing to do with beer. While this is true, Budweiser has several reasons for making the commercial the way that they did.
First, Budweiser is famous for its Clydesdale horses, so when you see them there is instant brand recognition. They traditionally do at least one commercial involving a Clydesdale each year.
By making sappy commercials, Budweiser puts itself forward as a responsible and caring brand - something that is hard to do when you're selling alcohol. It puts a good feeling in people's hearts when they think of Bud.
Let's face it, the man and the woman in this commercial are both pretty hot. That will get people glued too.
Finally, dog commercials do great during the Super Bowl. That's why we see multiple dog commercials year after year. A dog is one of the ingredients to success, and when that dog is a puppy, you get everyone's attention.

Reactions to the Budweiser Puppy Commercial
My favorite reaction to this commercial has to be, "It worms my heart." I'm not sure if this pun was done on purpose or not, but it sure made me laugh.
Overall, people are loving this commercial. The animals are adorable and the way they interact with each other is very cute. The Clydesdales standing in front of the car adds an element of humor and by the time the dog gets a big hug from the man, the commercial weepers get the waterworks going.
